We knew Alan Wake 2 news was coming heading into Summer Game Fest. What most people didn’t expect was how much news we’d get. The biggest announcement was that an expansion was due to be released. The Night Springs DLC, available now, will add an episode starring three new characters. Another announcement was that Alan Wake 2 would be a physical release. Controversially digital-only at launch, a physical version of the Alan Wake sequel will be coming by the end of 2024, with a very special Collector’s Edition among the available options.
There is no standard edition for the physical copy of Alan Wake 2. If you want to own a physical copy of the sequel, you’ll have to choose between the Deluxe and Collector’s Edition. If you’re one of the many people who’ve been clamoring for a physical copy of Alan Wake 2 since the unfortunate news that physical copies won’t be available at launch, there’s a good chance you’re more than happy to pay the extra for the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition, especially considering what you get with each edition.

The Collector’s Edition will cost $200 and only 7,500 will be available.
The Deluxe Edition will include the Night Springs DLC, which was released shortly after it was announced at Summer Game Fest, meaning the physical version will be the complete game, but it seems unlikely that any further DLC will be added. It will also include the first Alan Wake game if you’re new to the series, or if you want to play through the Alan Wake saga from the beginning to the Night Springs DLC in one go. That means you get the entire series from start to finish, all in one game.
What do you get when you buy a physical copy of Alan Wake 2?

Deluxe Edition
Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 is the sequel to Remedy’s hit survival horror game, blending two separate storylines into one as FBI agent Saga Anderson investigates both a series of brutal murders and a story written by Wake himself.

The biggest and best part of the Collector’s Edition is the replica Angel Lamp, which actually works so you can hold it and pretend to be Alan Wake whenever you wander around the house at night to investigate noises or grab a snack. Also included is a 160-page book filled with art from the sequel, a keychain of the fictional Oceanview Hotel, and a deluxe Collector’s Edition box to store it all in.
Limited Run Games is more than just a name: while physical copies of Alan Wake 2 won’t be released until October 22nd, the pre-order window for the Collector’s Edition is much shorter. Pre-orders are open now, and will close at 11:59pm EST on July 21st. You’ll also have to wait a bit longer than those who ordered the Deluxe Edition, as it’s not expected to ship until December.
In a world where the focus on physical video game releases is becoming less important for some studios, Limited Run continues to give fans a way to buy, own, play and keep forever games that would otherwise be digital-only and potentially lost in the distant future. The Deluxe Edition of Alan Wake 2 will release on October 22, 2024, while Limited Run’s Collector’s Edition is scheduled to ship in December. Both editions will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
FAQ
How well did Alan Wake 2 sell?
Alan Wake 2 sold 1.3 million copies by February 2024, making it Remedy’s best-selling game to date. Despite its success, it has yet to break even, and hopefully a sequel with a physical release will help it reach that goal.
Can I play Alan Wake 2 without playing the first game?
There’s an argument to be made that playing Alan Wake 2 without having played the first game will give you a more immersive experience, as, similar to Saga Anderson, you’ll arrive in Bright Falls with little knowledge of what happened in the original game.
