Hyderabad: Akshar Yoga Kendra, under the visionary leadership of its founder and revered Himalayan Yogi Siddha Akshar, made history by setting five new Guinness World Records on International Yoga Day. Thousands of yoga practitioners and enthusiasts from across the discipline performed seven different yoga asanas including Naukasana (Boat Pose), Kaundinyasana (Sage Kaundinyasana), Chakrasana (Wheel Pose), Natrajasana (Lord Shiva Pose) and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) to set new world records at the event held at Bengaluru-based Akshar Yoga Kendra. While five Guinness World Records were successfully set, positive response is awaited for the remaining two. This record-breaking feat was participated in by over 3,000 personnel from the Indian Army, NCC, Air Force, Karnataka Police, along with people with disabilities, children from orphanages, business and corporate enthusiasts.
“Yoga is a holistic concept that involves not only asanas and techniques but also the overall physical and mental wellbeing of an individual. It is our consistent endeavour to take this ancient practice to new heights and make it practised at homes across the globe. Setting five new Guinness World Records on the occasion of Yoga Day, along with citizens and participants from 20 countries, is a tribute to the unparalleled power of Yoga. Every asana performed has immense health benefits for all, especially women, who face numerous challenges in everyday life,” said Himalayan Siddha Akshar while completing the historic feat.
He further said that the event aimed to foster a sense of global unity and collective achievement while raising awareness about the multifaceted benefits of yoga. The achievement of the five Guinness World Records will be commemorated with the issuance of special envelopes and postmarks by the Post Office under the Ministry of Communications following an official announcement. After weeks of comprehensive training, participants held five different asanas for periods ranging from 30 seconds to five minutes. 382 participants performed Naukasana (Boat Pose), 352 participants performed Kaundinyasana (Sage Kaundinyasana), 390 participants performed Chakrasam (Wheel Pose) and 595 participants performed Natrajasan (Lord Shiva Pose). A total of 1,372 Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations) were performed, breaking five Guinness World Records.
The success of this event is a testament to Akshar Yoga Kendraa’s commitment to yoga, including effective instruction and enthusiastic participants from all over the world. As well as marking its 10th anniversary with a historic record,Number On International Yoga Day, Akshar Yoga Kendra has organised a series of activities designed to highlight the transformative power of yoga.Notably, Akshar Yoga Kendra entered the Guinness World Records last year by performing three different yoga asanas – Vasishtasana, Ushtrasana and Halasana – for 45, 60 and 90 seconds respectively.
