The Dodgers’ star player is receiving attention for his health ahead of spring training.
Max Muncy and the Los Angeles Dodgers recently agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract for the infielder to return to Los Angeles. Despite Muncy’s rocky 2023 season, it’s clear LA still has faith in the veteran.
Muncy appears ready to prove the Dodgers right, as the third baseman is reportedly in great shape heading into spring training, according to MLB Network’s David Vaseg.
“It would be hard not to notice Max Muncy’s improved health this spring. Dave Roberts and Brandon Gomez praised Muncy for taking on the challenge of improving himself this winter. “Our hitting staff is raving about him,” he added.
After several down seasons, Muncy had a bounce-back year with the Dodgers in 2023, hitting a career-high 36 home runs in his first 100-RBI season. He had an .808 OPS and 95 RBIs in 135 games.
2023 will be Muncy’s sixth season with the Dodgers. He had a solid career in LA, earning MVP votes in three seasons and being named an All-Star twice. 2024 will be his 33rd season.
Muncy’s next contract with the Dodgers will keep him in Los Angeles through the 2025 season. He also has a $10 million club option for 2026. If the Dodgers exercise that option, Muncy could end up making $34 million and remain in L.A. for three years.
The Dodgers had the offseason anyone could dream of, signing Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in free agency, as well as making other significant moves, including trading for Tyler Glasnow and signing Teoscar Hernandez. .
A healthy and motivated Muncy can only help the Dodgers in their quest to win the World Series.
