How a social media detox can improve your mental and physical health

By Movieguide® Contributor

Have you ever detoxed from your devices? Find out how ditching the digital world can improve your mental health and help you refocus on the real world.

“A digital detox is a period of abstinence from using technology devices such as smartphones, televisions, computers, tablets, and social media sites,” Very Well Mind reports.

There are several benefits to putting your device down.

According to Study Finds, a social media detox “reduced anxiety and depression.” The source said: “Many experts suggest that increased anxiety, especially in children, is due to social media. We are constantly comparing ourselves to our friends, and posts have a certain number of ‘ I feel defeated if I don’t get any likes or comments. ”

Movieguide® says, “It’s no secret that mental health is in crisis, especially among young people, as more and more people struggle with issues such as anxiety and depression. Although there is not enough evidence directly linking social media, we found that this technology has been shown to exacerbate existing mental health problems in young people.”

I found a note from a study that found that putting away your phone can improve your sleep.

“If you don’t put your phone on silent at night, constant notifications can wake you up in the middle of the night, leading to less sleep. This can affect your mind and body. ” states the group.

Ironically, limiting social media can also lead to “stronger social connections.” Healthier Steps says: “When you meet someone in person, you pick up on nonverbal cues that you don’t get from a screen. You get to see how they react to different situations and gauge their true feelings about things.” can.”

Stopping scrolling can also prevent FOMO, or “fear of missing out.”

“Seeing all your friends attending a party you weren’t invited to can cause you to feel FOMO (fear of missing out),” the study says. “But if you haven’t seen what your friends are doing on social media, it doesn’t hurt that you don’t know.”

Avoiding the digital world can also improve your physical health.

“Constantly looking at a screen can lead to eye strain as well as hand, neck, and back problems,” says Study Finds.

“Humans aren’t designed to walk, sit, or stand with their heads down all the time.” Taking time off from your devices will make you feel much better, both mentally and physically. ” the source added.

While social media has some benefits, such as keeping you connected with family and friends, there are many benefits to taking breaks and limiting your time online. Movieguide® previously reported:

While screen addiction continues to plague smartphone users, Americans want to reduce screen time and are setting personal boundaries to do so.

Deloitte’s 2023 Connected Consumer study found that “consumers, especially those aged 18 to 40, are concerned about the impact of device use on their physical and mental health.”

“The survey found that 53% of Americans in the same age group struggle to limit screen time to comfortable levels, and 51% and 47%, respectively, find that device use is physically or mentally “We are concerned about the potential for negative health effects,” Statista reported.

Because of these negative effects, 80% of smartphone users limit their use of technology by setting personal boundaries.
