UC San Diego Health has concluded more than nine months of negotiations regarding a potential affiliation with the Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC) Healthcare District.
The final revised plan was presented to the TCMC Healthcare District on July 24, but no agreement was reached.
Highlights of the final proposal for TCMC included a financial recovery and growth plan that:
- A cash infusion of $100 million over the first two years, plus other financial support, including a credit facility designed to protect TCMC’s financial stability over the first five years.
- All assets and liabilities will be transferred to UC San Diego Health, and employees will be transferred to UC San Diego Health by the fifth year.
- All TCMC employees will receive a salary increase of at least 20% over the first three years.
- A five-year plan for expanding TCMC’s clinical programs to include cardiovascular, neurological, pregnancy and behavioral health services, as well as comprehensive cancer services, including access to clinical trials and specialty services.
- Infrastructure enhancements, capital equipment investments and implementation of the Epic electronic medical record system to support quality and continuity of care at TCMC.
UC San Diego Health remains committed to serving the North County community and continues the planned expansion of patient care services. UC San Diego Health’s goal is to ensure and maintain access to safe, quality care for patients and their families throughout the region.
The health system is established and growing with locations in Vista and Encinitas and is set to open a new 150,000-square-foot multi-specialty medical center in Rancho Bernardo that will include primary care, comprehensive cancer care, outpatient surgery, advanced imaging, rehabilitation services and 17 specialties.
UC San Diego Health is one of six academic medical centers within the University of California system, a 1,101-bed academic health system with primary care, same-day care and specialty care clinics throughout the region.
UC San Diego Health is comprised of Hillcrest Medical Center, East Campus Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Moores Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute, Corman Family Outpatient Pavilion and the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute.
UC San Diego Health recently announced plans for the 2024-25 school year. US News & World Report The Best Hospitals Survey has recognized the hospital system as the best in San Diego and among the best in the nation in 11 adult medical and surgical specialties, and it has also received “Honor Roll” designation, an honor bestowed on only 20 hospitals nationwide for excellence in patient care.
