new york – A home health aide was caught on video beating the 95-year-old Harlem woman he was supposed to be caring for.
Shocking home video captured by Nest and Ring cameras shows a home health aide tasked with caring for beloved grandmother Dorothy Foy repeatedly punching her, at one point hitting her with a pot, before she eventually collapsed to the ground, still clutching her walker.
“I heard the woman yelling, swearing, saying obscene things at my grandmother. She was yelling at her,” granddaughter Tiffany Mitchell said. “She was picking up water bottles, juice bottles, cans and throwing them at my grandmother. She was just walking around throwing things and disappearing.”
“I was trying to fight back.”
As their family watched the incident on their mobile phones, they were overcome with a sense of helplessness and sadness.
“I wanted to jump through the camera and hit her,” Mitchell said. “I was screaming, ‘Grandma, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m going now.'”
Foy tried to fight back.
“I tried to fight back, but you know, I’m weak. I can’t fight against that big woman,” she said.
“She could barely stand up. She was on oxygen in her nose, she was using a walker. She was trying to keep her balance,” Ms Mitchell said. “She was helpless. She was like a helpless baby.”
The brutal attack happened on a Sunday and Foye said she still feels pain all over her body and is unable to lift one of her arms.
“I’d be lying if I said I felt good,” Foye said.
But she also has some messages for home care workers.
“I want to beat her myself. I want someone to beat her like she beat me,” Foye said.
The family has since hired a new caregiver from another agency.
Meanwhile, MedFlight, the home health agency, said it had launched an internal investigation, and police are also investigating. No arrests have been made so far.
The family said they also want action taken against MedFlight.
