Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has set an ambitious target of achieving per cent physical literacy in 10 years and yoga can contribute significantly to that.
He inaugurated a two-day colloquium on yoga in life sciences and new possibilities for a new world order organized by Rajiv Gandhi Biotechnology Center (RGCB) and International Yoga Research Foundation here on Saturday. .
“Kerala has made remarkable progress in the health sector. However, there are some shortcomings in the social health sector that need to be seriously addressed. Health data should be updated regularly to plug loopholes. We need to not only do this, but also work on a special action plan to tackle lifestyle-related diseases,” the Prime Minister said.
He said a project is underway to set up 1,000 Ayush yoga clubs in municipal corporations across the state to provide yoga training to at least 20 people in the ward at a time.
A scheme with a total cost of Rs 1,865 crore was also being implemented to improve the infrastructure of yoga health centers as part of state-level schemes under Ayush Mission.
“Collective efforts are required to address future health challenges. Popularization of yoga and promotion of its proper training will strengthen efforts in this direction,” said Mr. Vijayan. .
By promoting yoga, Kerala will become a holistic health tourism destination and attract travelers looking for wellness solutions, he said.
