Orange, Calif.-based UCI Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation (a division of Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health) break ground on a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Irvine, Calif., as part of a joint venture partnership did.
The UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a 68,000-square-foot, two-story facility, will function as a 52-bed freestanding hospital, according to a Feb. 16 news release from LifePoint Health.
The hospital will consist of a specialized acquired brain injury department, an imaging room for on-site radiology, a dialysis room, a multidisciplinary treatment gymnasium with treatment technology, an outdoor courtyard, and additional space for patients.
All units within the facility will be designed to meet the needs of patients receiving acute inpatient rehabilitation care for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, amputations, and other disabilities and injuries.
UCI Health Rehabilitation Hospital will more than triple the health system’s inpatient rehabilitation capacity and will be jointly operated by UCI Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation. According to the release, it is scheduled to open in 2025.
UCI Health, an academic health system, is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, headquartered in Irvine. The main campus, Orange-based UCI Medical Center, is a 459-bed acute care hospital, and the health system also includes primary care and specialty care offices.
LifePoint Rehabilitation is comprised of more than 40 free-standing inpatient rehabilitation facilities and more than 250 hospital-based rehabilitation units, as well as medical, surgical and outpatient treatment facilities.
