NORTH TROY — Mexican national Ciro Temich Ramirez, 35, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Temich Ramirez is in the United States illegally and has previously admitted to the charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont reported the verdict today. Federal agents encountered Temich Ramirez less than a mile south of the U.S.-Canada border in North Troy on Sept. 30, 2023, according to court records.
The meeting escalated into a physical altercation, which led to Temich-Ramirez being restrained by additional federal agents. A shotgun, ammunition, methamphetamine, brass knuckles and a knife were found inside the car.
As an individual in the United States illegally, Temich-Ramirez is prohibited from owning firearms. U.S. Attorney Nicholas P. Kerest acknowledged the swift action and investigative efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol in this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Stendig led the prosecution, and Assistant U.S. Public Defender Sarah Palus represented Temich Ramirez.
