A Chicago woman has been missing since she vanished last week during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas, authorities said.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Service’s missing persons bulletin, Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on Wednesday near Paradise Island, near the crime-ridden city of Nassau.
Casey was in the Caribbean for a yoga certification retreat and missed Wednesday’s class.
The yoga retreat center contacted Casey’s family the next day, according to a social media post from a friend shared on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Casey.
“Taylor is a very kind person and cares deeply about her community,” the friend wrote.
According to the Facebook group, Casey’s family plans to travel to the Bahamas this week to help with the search effort.
The disappearance of the American tourist comes as the US State Department warned travelers to the Bahamas, including Nassau, to exercise greater caution earlier this year due to crime there.
According to the State Department, “violent crimes, including theft, armed robbery, and sexual assault, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas.”
Further information about Casey’s case was not immediately available.
