MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Three yoga studios teamed up in Morgantown to celebrate the unity of mind and body on International Yoga Day Saturday.
Inner Life Yoga, Hindu Religious and Cultural Center Yoga and Empower Yoga hosted free 30-minute sessions where participants could try out different types of yoga. Center officials said they celebrate all religions and community events together.
“We’re so happy to be here and so grateful to the Indian community for opening up and inviting us in,” said Kimberly Williams, co-owner of Inner Life Yoga Studio. “We’ve been here before and it was so much fun.”
Williams added that yoga has become very popular these days, and there are three styles of yoga: Iyengar yoga, Vinyasa (hot yoga) and classical Hatha yoga.
“We do humanitarian educational activities and all kinds of fun activities for all age groups,” said Suma Ponnam, vice president of the Hindu Religious and Cultural Centre. “Yoga, as we all know, originated in India, so we are very happy to celebrate International Yoga Day.”
