AMMAN – The Indian Embassy in Jordan organised a “grand” yoga demonstration session at Al Hussain Sports City area on Friday evening to mark the 10th edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024 in Jordan.
The event saw “wide” participation from various segments of society, including prominent yoga schools in Jordan, friends of India in Jordan, members of the diplomatic corps, medical professionals, students, representatives of Indian community associations, Indian diaspora and yoga enthusiasts.
In his speech, the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires Rajeem K. emphasised the “immense” value of the ancient yoga practice in achieving a “holistic” lifestyle that encompasses the mind, body and soul, and underscored the “transformative” impact yoga has on both an individual and societal level.
The diplomat also stressed the importance of the theme of International Day of Yoga 2024, “Yoga for Self and Society,” highlighting the potential of yoga to promote peace, harmony and community well-being.
Popular social media lifestyle influencer Mohammed Al Sabbagh was the guest of honour at the event.
The grand celebration in Amman featured live yoga sessions led by Jordanian “famous” yoga instructor and founder of “Over the Rainbow” studio Eman Suheimat, as well as cultural performances and videos showcasing the diverse facets of yoga and its rich traditions.
Following the adoption of a United Nations General Assembly resolution in 2014 declaring June 21 as International Day of Yoga, yoga has been elevated internationally, thanks to the efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
