A girl who was practicing yoga at the Golden Temple has now filed a police complaint against her by the SGPC. The SGPC has strongly protested against her act and said it is against the religious values and ethos of Sikhism. Following the complaint, the girl, who is a social media influencer, issued an apology in a video.

The girl had been performing yoga at the Golden Temple in Amritsar but the SGPC had taken objection to her actions.
AmritsarA girl from Gujarat was reported to have performed yoga at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, which drew backlash from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which strongly opposed her action. The girl even shared pictures on her social media accounts of herself performing some yoga poses inside the holy temple.
SGPC files police complaint, girl apologises
The girl, identified as Archana Makwana, a self-described social media influencer, had strongly protested against her actions, calling them against religious traditions. But they went further and filed a police complaint against the girl.
The SGPC also alleged that the girl had not covered her head while inside the Golden Temple premises. In Sikhism, it is mandatory to cover your head before entering a gurdwara, a place of worship. Taking action, the Sikh body suspended three security guards who were on duty on the day the girl performed yoga.
Makwana realised that the issue had escalated out of hand and apologised. She maintained that she had no intention of hurting anyone’s religious sentiments. In her video message, she also claimed that she had received threats ever since raising the issue with the SGPC. It is unclear for now what action the SGPC will take following her apology. Will they withdraw their complaint with the police or continue to pursue the matter?
