It’s 6:30pm on June 6th and over 250 people, several of them over 40, have logged into a webinar to hear Shivtosh Kumar, co-founder of Bengaluru-based health tech startup Sugar.fit, speak about diabetes, or more precisely, how to reverse it.
“First of all, everyone must remember that diabetes is 100% reversible. By following a few simple steps throughout your life, [and] No more medicines, consultations or diagnoses [test]That is the promise and guarantee I can give you [this] “Diabetes should be called what it is,” Kumar confidently told the attendees. “It’s like being free from diabetes forever.”
Webinar host Shanmukh Chowdary, who is in charge of “growth” at Sugar.fit, introduced Kumar as someone with a career spanning over 14 years who was a recipient of Healthcare magazine’s “40 under 40” award. A former product manager at Cure.fit (now fitness unicorn Cult.fit), Kumar’s LinkedIn profile notes that he has no background in medicine or healthcare.
But he claimed that by last year he had “helped approximately 25,000 people of all ages improve their diabetes.”
After a few questions and answers, and many surprises, Kumar launched into his sales pitch: 30 slots were available in a “special batch” of Sugar Fit’s year-round diabetes reversal program, at a 40 percent discount off the original price of about 30,000 rupees (US$360).
