LUCKNOW: As the city gears up for International Yoga Day, civic authorities and local communities are making extensive preparations to ensure grand celebrations. The Lucknow Development Authority and Lucknow Municipal Corporation have taken steps to promote yoga among residents. The Lucknow Development Authority has made entry to 12 parks free in the morning to encourage residents to take up yoga. The Lucknow Municipal Council has also planned yoga sessions in all parks across its 110 wards, expecting participation of 500,000 people. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and social organisations are organising yoga sessions, which are expected to see around 10,000 participants. Highlighting the preparations at Nehru Enclave, Anju Varshney, core officer appointed by the Lucknow Development Authority, said, “For the last one week, residents have been holding yoga sessions at Lohia Park. On June 21, a special millet meal will be served to participants after meditation, pranayama and intense yoga activities,” she said. In Thakurganj, Vineet Yadav, a yoga teacher from Napier Road (Part I) Welfare Association, said people have been doing yoga for the last one week and the yoga day would see a turnout of many more enthusiasts. Raghuvendra Shukla, president of Gomtinagar Jan Kalyan Samiti, said 68 groups practiced yoga, meditation and pranayama in six days. In Gomtinagar Extension, the RWAs of Satraj Apartments and Saraswati Apartments have scheduled sessions focusing on safe and easy exercises from 5.30 am to 8 am. SK Bhadoria, president of Satraj RWA, stressed their commitment to ensure people’s safety. Rupali Pandey of Saraswati Apartments, Gomtinagar Extension, said many participants have benefited from yoga.
