A Salem man was arrested following a report of a physical confrontation. 54-year-old Benjamin Lavallee is facing charges of terroristic threats, domestic violence, endangering the welfare of a minor and violating a no-contact order.
According to charging documents, a woman driving in the area reported reckless driving along Denton Ferry Road to Cotter police officers on May 30. She told authorities she was driving behind a vehicle driven by a suspect, later identified as LaValley, when he got into an argument with another woman and drove off.
During the call, authorities heard what sounded like a physical altercation with LaValley yelling threats and yelling at the victim. Officers reported a 15-year-old boy was also present during the altercation. LaValley allegedly yelled at the boy to get back in his car and help put the victim in the car. Officers observed the boy appearing agitated.
During the altercation, the victim fled the scene and was met by Gassville troopers who waited until they found LaValley. County troopers arrested LaValley on U.S. Highway 62/412 West near Big Creek.
Investigators went to the victims’ home in Marion County to speak with them about the altercation. Both women say LaBarrie made death threats to them before driving off in his car. Somewhere between Cotter Springs and the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and Denton Ferry Road, LaBarrie allegedly punched one of the victims in the back of the head, causing her to hit her head on the dashboard of the car, then jumped out. Officers observed the victim had blue eyes, a protruding bruise on her forehead with a bump and red marks around her neck, and the victim stated LaBarrie grabbed her.
LaValley was booked into the Baxter County Jail and charged with one felony count of terroristic threatening, one felony count of domestic violence, one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor and one misdemeanor count of violating a no-contact order. He was released on $25,000 bail.
