OAK RIDGE, N.C. (WGHP) — A A Guilford County deputy sheriff was shot Monday. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is now releasing more details about the events that led to the shooting.
Capt. M. Holder of the GCSO Major Crimes Unit shared new information about the shooting Wednesday afternoon.
Three officers arrived at about 1:23 a.m. Monday to the 7000 block of Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge after suspect Andrew Ryan Caette, 54, of Oak Ridge, called 911, Holder said.

Police found Caette near the driveway of a home on Skippers Trace Road.
Holder said police were called to Caette’s home four times in the last month, mostly in regards to four-wheelers and dirt bikes that had been riding in the neighborhood and were attributed to Caette.
Caette reportedly did not give a specific reason why he called police to his home, instead saying officers “will know when they get there.”
He was reportedly “somewhat aggressive and argumentative with the officers” and a struggle ensued, during which one officer was shot and killed.
Holder said the physical altercation was “very violent” and culminated in a gun being discharged. The altercation is being investigated by GCSO’s Professional Standards Unit.
The officer was shot with a 5.56x45mm caliber bullet, Holder said.

Both Cayette and the officer were taken to hospital and have since been released.
Caette was arrested and charged with felony assault on a police officer with a firearm, three counts of assault on a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious injury.

Caette remains in custody and is being held without bail.
