Aurora, Illinois – In an effort to promote mental health awareness and support, Indian Prairie School District 204 (IPSD204), in collaboration with West Aurora School District 129 (WASD 129), announces the second annual Mental Health Symposium . The event, scheduled to be held at Metea Valley High School in Aurora on Saturday, March 9, aims to provide enhanced support and resources to students and families navigating the complexities of mental health.
In response to the pressing need for expanded mental health services and resources, IPSD 204 developed this symposium to empower both parents and teens on their mental health journey. “Our symposium provides an opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge about mental health and find support, whether for themselves or for others,” said Dr. Adrian Talley, director of IPSD 204. and emphasized the importance of the event.

Over the past two years, Indian Prairie has expanded its mental health efforts, including the creation of Indian Prairie CARES, an innovative initiative aimed at promoting health equity and student wellness by providing mental health clinics in schools. We have pioneered successful programs to enhance services and better support students and families. The Indian Prairie model was established through grants from Endeavor Health (formerly Edward Elmhurst), the Community Investment Fund, and the Illinois Department of Public Health. The district continues to set the standard for mental health services throughout DuPage County, with 11 other school districts now following suit.
Following the success of the CARES Clinic, Superintendent Talley emphasized the importance of continuing to shine a light on mental health supports through the development of the Mental Health Symposium, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with WASD 129, and encouraged other The district was also invited to participate in this activity. .
The Indian Prairie Mental Health Symposium will include a keynote address by Dr. Devorah Hytner, author of the following books: grow in public and Screenwise: Helping kids thrive (and survive) in a digital world. Dr. Hytner’s research has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and CNN Opinion. She has her Ph.D. She received her PhD in Media/Technology and Society from Northwestern University and has taught at DePaul University and Northwestern University.
The keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion with local experts to discuss the relevance of Dr. Hytner’s presentation in schools and communities.
Breakout Sessions/Community Resource Fair for Adults and Youth
Attendees can expect a variety of breakout sessions tailored to both adults and teens, covering a wide range of topics from practical strategies for managing anxiety to resilience and embracing self-worth. The event will also feature a book fair, community resource fair, and childcare services for children ages 3 to 10.
