A recent report from SPORT’s Ivan San Antonio revealed that Barcelona have chosen Sevilla’s Pepe Conde as their new physical trainer.
The decision was taken after much consideration as the position of physical trainer is one of the main concerns of the club’s management, something that club president Joan Laporta highlighted in a recent interview.
Interestingly, despite selecting the Sevilla player, Conde is yet to officially take up his new role as he must first sever his ties with the club.
Barcelona want to sign Conde before pre-season
Despite the obstacles, negotiations are ongoing and Conde is set to join Barcelona in time for pre-season and work under manager Hansi Flick.
On the other hand, it is important to note that the decision to hire a new physical trainer is a strategic move by the club management, not a coaching decision.
The report also states that there will be major changes to Barcelona’s support staff, with four or five new physiotherapists expected to join the team, meaning several current physiotherapists will be replaced.
Further staff changes
Among the new additions is Julio Tous, a strength training specialist who will oversee activity in the gym, while another key member is recovery specialist Raul Martínez, who already trains several players, especially the Spain international, such as Pedri.
Despite these changes, Ricardo Purna will continue in his role as Head of Medical Services. This continuity ensures stability within the medical team as new members join.
Overall, these changes reflect Barcelona’s commitment to improving the team’s physical training and medical support.
The selection of Conde and the introduction of new specialists such as Tous and Martinez are part of a wider strategy to strengthen the performance and care of the team.
With these new additions, the club aims to provide the best possible support to its players and ensure they are in peak fitness ahead of next season.
