Collect funds for local children

A Kamloops barre and yoga class aims to raise awareness and funds for people affected by rare diseases.
Kristen Pickel, owner of Movement Collective, said she plans to host a barre yoga fusion class called “Rise for Rare” later this month as part of a fundraiser for two local families. .
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the families of Jude Mitten, 11, who lives with the devastating diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Jacques Gauthier, 10, who lives with the diagnosis of ASH1L.
“We find out that we’re raising money to help with recovery. There’s no funding for these things, so parents are also paying for all of this,” Pickell said. Ta.
“It’s difficult and we want to support them in any way we can as a community.”
Pickel said the class has a capacity of 17 students, but it fills up quickly. She said her fundraising goal is to raise $510, which will be split between Mitten and Gauthier’s families.
“We just need to talk about these things and share them so that people are more aware of these things,” Pickel said.
The one-hour class will be held on February 24, International Day of Rare Diseases.
This class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Yew Street Food Hall (107 Yew St.).
