Actress Taraji P. Henson is no stranger to prioritizing her mental health, especially in an industry that doesn’t. Her latest endeavor puts her joy front and center alongside Kate Spade’s New York. Henson and Brand both believe in destigmatizing conversations around mental health and providing access to culturally specific mental health care. The new capsule collection was created to highlight the important role that women and girls’ mental health plays in their lives and empowerment journeys.
The new collection features a limited edition white t-shirt with the words “Joy Is” displayed in green on the chest. Additionally, a heart-shaped necklace made of green agate is also included in the collection. Her 100% of the proceeds from each item in North America will be donated to the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, which the actress co-founded at the end of February.

“At the beginning of our partnership with Kate Spade New York, our hearts met in a place outside of our organizations. Our teams connected on a fundamental human level. When tackling a topic, we know that this work cannot be carried out alone. Like us, we need partners who share our work and have lived experience. ” Henson said in a statement. “As rates of isolation and loneliness continue to rise, this collection aims to remind you that you are not alone. But joy is our north star,” she added.

This partnership between Henson’s foundation and Kate Spade New York was born in 2022 after the actress joined the brand’s Social Impact Council. The Counsel is a collective of women’s empowerment and mental health leaders from around the world who believe in the power of joy and are committed to providing access to resources to improve the mental health of women and girls. In 2023, this partnership expanded with “Sea Cares Wellness Pods.” It is the first on-campus physical structure of its kind at a historically Black college or women’s college campus.
The first pod was at Alabama State University and the second pod was at Hampton University. The third edition will be held at Bennett College. These pods provided a quiet space for women and girls to mentally decompress from stress, participate in free therapy sessions, and practice various relaxation methods such as yoga, meditation, and art therapy.
