BRAINERD — Crow Wing Energized will host a presentation called “Make it OK” at the Brainerd Public Library on Tuesday, March 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
This event aims to encourage discussion about mental illness in order to change minds about misconceptions about mental illness.
One in four adults in Crow Wing County experiences mental illness, but it takes an average of 10 years for most to receive treatment, according to a news release.
Stigma against discussing mental illness often contributes to that delay.
The Make It OK campaign aims to encourage conversations about mental illness. Arguments include what to say and what not to say.
This discussion also helps us understand that mental health is just part of a person’s humanity and is more common and relatable than people think.
That is the key to understanding that people living with mental illness are treated with respect and acceptance so that community members can seek help when they need it.
Presented by Kathy Cotew, Workforce Development Specialist at Essentia Health.
