Michelle Sleets, a librarian who went viral for spreading her love for libraries and the community through social media, has quit her job at the Solano County Library to focus on her mental health.
On Friday, Sleets shared a new post on her TikTok, announcing that she was leaving her job at the library to work with her team and “prioritize” her mental health. Sleetz has become popular on social media with videos highlighting his life as a librarian, which he hopes will spread what he calls “the joy of libraries.”
He begins the video by thanking the library for being a “safe space” for him and sharing some of his fondest memories, including making friends and landing his first job. Despite having a great time, Sleets let her followers know that her last day at the library will be March 1st.
“I am retiring to prioritize my mental health,” Sleats said. “Working with the Mental Health Check-in Team, I want to make you all very proud. I want to fight for literacy. Across the country, around the world, libraries There’s a lot going on that’s impacting them, and I want to support them in any way I can.”
He added: “Across the world, nationally, we’re going to Congress and letting them know how much money libraries need and deserve funding. It’s about funding the community, it’s about funding our unity, our unity, and making us better people,” he added.
