This week at Jesuit, Zach and Ashley welcome Meg Kissinger, Pulitzer Prize finalist and author of books such as: While You’re Out: An Intimate Family Portrait of Mental Illness in the Silent Era. Meg’s memoir uses her journalistic skills to tell the story of a Catholic family battling mental illness. It serves as a great foundation for having deep, personal conversations about faith, tragedy, and trust in the organization, even when people within the organization have betrayed you.
They discuss:
- Meg’s family’s experience with mental illness and suicide
- The evolution of the Church’s pastoral care for those affected by suicide
- How community living can help us have better conversations about mental health
In Signs of the Times, Zach and Ashley discuss the recent news that Archbishop Sergio Pagano, head of the Vatican Apostolic Archives, is retiring and will reveal Vatican secrets in his departure. He then addressed the recent controversy surrounding activist Cecilia Gentili’s funeral last week at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.
If you are thinking of suicide, contact the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 or visit: SpeakerOfSuicide.com/Resources for additional resources.
