
10th UN International Day of Yoga Celebrations in Doha
Qatar: The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Friday, June 21, 2024. IDY 2024 was organised by the Embassy in collaboration with India Sports Centre and other Indian community organisations.
The celebrations began with a video message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the 10th International Day of Yoga. In his message, PM Narendra Modi said, “Yoga is a timeless practice that celebrates oneness and harmony. Yoga transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, connecting millions of people across the world in the pursuit of holistic well-being. Yoga provides a sanctuary of serenity, enabling us to overcome life’s challenges with serenity and fortitude.”
Ambassador Shri Vipul welcomed the participants and stressed that this year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society” highlights the holistic benefits we all can derive from this ancient Indian tradition. Regular practice of yoga exercises and meditation brings about changes in people’s minds and bodies, bringing them closer to their true selves and contributing to promoting social harmony.
The main highlight of the event was the practice of the Common Yoga Protocol by the participants. Over 2,000 yoga practitioners and enthusiasts from all walks of society, including children, youth and women, participated in the event. The yoga competition, held for both children and adults, saw enthusiastic participation. The celebration concluded with congratulations to the contest winners and yoga instructors and distribution of prizes and mementos.
