American Heart Association celebrates 100th anniversary with Heart of Houston gala, raising awareness of its long-standing mission to defeat heart disease and stroke
HOUSTON, Feb. 12, 2024 — At the 2024 Houston Heart Ball, we unite to save lives and strive for equitable health for all Houstonians. More than $1.2 million in funds raised will support the American Heart Association’s life-saving efforts to fight heart disease and stroke. Additionally, local organizations in Houston’s public health and food security sectors will benefit from this funding as they continue to expand their services to create equitable health outcomes across the city.
“Houston AHA could not have made this much of a difference in our local community without the generous support of this year’s Heart Ball sponsors and supporters. We are so grateful for their support. ,” said Alison Cedar, senior executive director. of Greater Houston. “Our organization was also very excited to celebrate our community partners who are making a difference through their contributions in the areas of heart health, food security, and nutrition. These honorees are recognized for their exceptional care, They exemplify warmth and compassion, and AHA was proud to recognize all of them on Saturday evening.”
Scenes from the event held on February 10ththwas the culmination of Heart of Houston, an initiative of the American Heart Association that works to equitably reverse heart disease and stroke and save lives. The Heart Ball represents a special moment to reflect, honor and celebrate the progress made through the determination, dedication and passion of everyone who supports Heart of Houston.
SLB served as the legacy sponsor of this year’s event, and HCA Houston Healthcare served as the Together to End Stroke sponsor. Norton Rose Fulbright, SLB, and St. Luke’s Health were all recognized as Second Century Supporters. Other supporters included the Hackett family, Debbie Moore and Jack B. Moore, and Beverly and Jim Postol.
The 2024 survivor and recipient was Wallis Marsh. He was joined by the evening’s host, Cambrell Marshall, and his more than 500 local guests who enjoyed musical entertainment by the dynamic band, Midtown 10.
2024 marks 100 years of scientific discovery and innovation by the American Heart Association. The association was founded in Chicago by his six cardiologists and was inspired by his social workers who felt they could do more to help people who had suffered heart attacks.
