State Schools Superintendent Tom Horn and Dr. Mehmet Oz yesterday announced a partnership between the Arizona Department of Education and the HealthCorps Initiative, a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Oz more than 20 years ago.
The partnership will offer more educational programs, leadership experiences and service learning related to student health, wellness and career development in the healthcare field. Also included are the Arizona Blue Cross and Blue Shield and, in yesterday’s announcement, the National Football League Alumni Association (NFLA), which was represented by former NFL players Nick Lowry, Darryl Clack and Wesley Reese.
“Dr. Oz and I share a passion for health. And we teach and encourage healthy eating habits, exercise, and other lifestyle choices that promote the physical and mental health of our students. Healthy students also do better academically. HealthCorps is committed to its mission and to helping workers prepare for careers in health care, where they are desperately needed. They share with me the value of providing students with opportunities to explore,” Horn said.
The Arizona Department of Education already has significant responsibilities in the area of school health and nutrition and has collaborative agreements with organizations such as HealthCorps to address the growing health and wellness needs of Arizona students. Masu. One of the department’s Career and Technical Education Division’s primary goals is to assist students in programs that lead to careers in the medical field. The Health and Nutrition Services Group also provides resources for schools to provide healthy meals.
“This generation of teens faces unprecedented challenges in their physical health, behavioral health, and social needs. The risk of chronic disease increases and life expectancy decreases. To combat these statistics, we give teens the tools to become more resilient physically and mentally. HealthCorps is the glue between the private sector and public agencies like the Arizona Department of Education. We are grateful to Superintendent Horn for joining us in this effort,” said Dr. Oz.
In the near future, the Arizona Department of Education plans to make HealthCorps resources available on an online platform for educators.
