New York, NY, November 14, 2023 – Prediabetes is reversible, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ad Council want people to know they can change their outcomes. .

More than 1 in 3 adults, or about 98 million Americans, have prediabetes, and 81% of them don’t know they have diabetes. The CDC and the Ad Council are today launching a new public service announcement (PSA) as part of their ongoing “.Am I prediabetic?” initiative to encourage people to learn about the risks of prediabetes.

A new “Be Your Own Hero” PSA developed by creative agency Subject Matter+Kivvit encourages viewers to take a one-minute prediabetes risk test. You can take steps to slow or prevent type 2 diabetes. If someone receives a high-risk score, the campaign will provide additional resources and encourage them to talk to their doctor about getting a blood test to confirm a diagnosis of prediabetes.

Since this award-winning campaign was first launched in January 2016, more than 12.7 million online and video risk tests have been completed to help people learn about their risk of prediabetes.

“It cannot be overstated that diabetes is a devastating public health problem that continues to affect millions of people across the United States,” said Director of CDC Diabetes Translation. said Christopher Holliday, Ph.D., MPH, MA, FACHE. “Identifying prediabetes is an opportunity for people to change their stories and prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. We can continue to raise awareness of prediabetes and encourage everyone to learn their side. It is important.”

Prediabetes is a serious health condition that also puts you at risk for other serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Research shows that being diagnosed with prediabetes may lead you to embrace lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, managing your weight, and being more active, which can help prevent type 2 diabetes and prevent type 2 diabetes. Helps delay onset. ” This action-packed and engaging new film shows just that. It’s the power of each of us to take control of our own destiny, in this case by taking action to reduce our risk of type 2 diabetes,” said Ad Council Chief Campaign Development Officer. Heidi Arthur said.

The PSA will be posted on broadcast, print, radio, out-of-home, digital banners and social media nationwide in English and Spanish. Following the Ad Council model, campaigns run in the time and space provided by the media.

“The idea is centered around the fact that a lot can happen to you in life, whether it’s overcoming everyday obstacles or dealing with more serious issues like type 2 diabetes.” said Kevin Richards, Chief Creative Officer at Subject Matter+Kivvit. “The ‘Be Your Own Hero’ campaign gives people an easy way to take control of their health.”

CDC is working with partners to further expand this campaign throughout the community, using evidence-based materials to inform physicians and other health care providers about the screening, diagnosis, and treatment process.

Last year, the Biden-Harris administration released a national strategy on hunger, nutrition, and health.. This strategy aims to reduce the increasing prevalence of diet-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes through the collective efforts of organizations across the United States.
