LIVERPOOL, N.Y. — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating reports that a teacher at Liverpool’s Elmcrest Elementary School physically abused a student.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tom Newton said deputies were called to the school Thursday morning after reports of teacher abuse.
District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said the teacher is being investigated in four incidents involving four students. The teacher reportedly pushed, shoved and grabbed the students.
The teacher has been suspended, Fitzpatrick said.
The district attorney said that even if the investigation found physical contact by the teacher, it would not rise to the level of criminal conduct. The sheriff’s office and school district are continuing to investigate.
Deputies said the reported abuse was not sexual in nature.
Elmcrest has approximately 425 students in kindergarten through second grade.
