ChristianaCare has received 11 awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for providing quality care in the treatment of stroke and heart disease. This certification demonstrates Christiana Care’s commitment to following the latest research-based guidelines, ultimately saving more lives, reducing recovery times and reducing hospital readmissions.
Someone in the United States has a stroke or heart attack every 40 seconds, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Research shows that patients recover better when healthcare professionals consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Three ChristianaCare hospitals received the prestigious award: Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital in New Castle County, Delaware, and Union Hospital in Cecil County, Maryland.
Speeding up stroke treatment

All three of his facilities in Delaware are certified by The Joint Commission, a national certifying agency. Christiana Hospital is recognized as a comprehensive stroke center with the most advanced level of expertise in stroke care.
Wilmington Hospital was recognized as a Primary Stroke Center and Middletown Emergency Department was recognized as an Acute Stroke Hospital.
Union Hospital is certified as a primary stroke center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems.
