In a new series, Bazaar’s multi-platform beauty director talks to inspiring people in the public eye about the rituals and habits that work for them. Here, Bridget Meets Her March meets prominent British TV presenter Kat Her Deeley and talks about the culture of wellness, and the health advice she would give her younger self.
West Bromwich-born Cat Deeley has been an acclaimed TV presenter both here and in Hollywood since the ’90s, but she takes a very practical approach to her health. “I don’t like the fact that women are being forced to eat healthy foods,” she tells me. “I don’t think this is a ‘one size fits all.'” For her, self-care might mean things like a cryotherapy room, an infrared sauna, or vitamin injections, or reading a magazine or drinking coffee. That might mean doing a double cleanse. “I think you need to find exactly what works for you and quiet the outside voices. We’re pushing different regimes, but fundamentally we’re set up to fail because we can’t do everything.”
As a busy mother of two boys, what works for her is to “make a little time” whenever she can, whether it’s for skincare (she’s a beauty ambassador for Ella & Jo Cosmetics) (Also shown when she smiles at me) Free makeup via Zoom), an at-home yoga workout, a medical checkup, or a “baby Botox” refill. Below, the 47-year-old outlines her sensible self-care philosophy and the routines and habits that support it.
On what she learned about health and wellness…
“I’m getting older too, which is an honor. If we’re lucky, we all get older! – I back my health with science.
“When I came to LA [on her current work trip] I first went to see my doctor for blood tests. In the United States, there is a test called “The Gallery” that can detect over 50 different types of cancer before symptoms appear, which is surprising.
“My advice to my younger self would be to not get caught up in the noise and trends. Bring it back to science. Learn from people who are not just trying to make money, but have knowledge to pass on.” I think the more of that, the better for us.”
On investing in self-care that works for her…
“Right now, I like the infrared sauna. It feels like it detoxifies your system, but it also relieves any aches and pains you’re having. I often do cryotherapy afterwards. I can’t do cold water swimming or ice bathing, but I love cryo.
“I do vitamin injections like vitamin B12 when I travel, and biotin for my hair, which changed after I had my baby boy, and those injections are great. They thicken it again. It was helpful.
“To get rid of the deep frown lines between my eyebrows, I am undergoing mesotherapy with Dr. Johnny De Souza and ‘Baby Botox’ with Dr. Francis Prenna Jones. You have to be able to move your face, so you just have to treat that. ”
Her morning routine is…
“I start with my skincare routine using Ella & Jo Brighten & Glow Exfoliating Cleanser. Next, I apply Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum to my face, neck and décolleté, followed by Plump & Protect Hydrating Day Cream with SPF30 on my face and neck. , chest, ears, hands. I was terrible When I was younger and used SPF. It wasn’t as ingrained in my psyche as it is now. Day creams already contain SPF, so you don’t have to think about it.
“Then I always try to do yoga. If I do an intense workout, I feel so bad for a couple of days that I can’t even go up or down the stairs. Yoga really works for me. I focus on my breathing and movement at the same time. I use a great website called Yogaglo, which means I can do yoga anytime, anywhere. Bookmark a specific class, such as 45 minutes or 1 hour, and subscribe to it.
“I wear the unisex fragrance oil E11even when I do yoga, but it works just as well when I go out to dinner with Paddy.” [Patrick Kielty, her husband, the comedian and presenter]. It’s relaxing, energizing, grounding, uplifting…doing whatever is needed in the moment. And if you like it, please like it! I’ve had taxi drivers ask me what I’m wearing, and I’ve even been stopped on the street. Even at the Brit Awards once, 50 Cent was like, “What the heck?!” ”
In her daily diet…
“I like celery, cucumber, lemon, and ginger juice in the morning. I often make a batch and store it in a mason jar in the fridge for when I’m in a hurry.
“The Mediterranean diet suits me. I like to eat a little bit of everything, mostly fruits and vegetables, and a little protein, but I love French bread, red wine and coffee. Just like fitness, it’s important to find a diet that works for you and stick to it on a regular basis. When you hear all the food-related questions, it’s often like, “I can’t eat potatoes,” or “I’ve heard about eggs.” “I don’t eat dairy products.” And let’s take a look at what’s actually in oats. Milk, it’s not good!
“I think you need to listen. your body. Pay attention and see what makes your skin look better, what makes you feel better, what makes you sleep better at night…”
Her nightly routine is…
“When I have time, I love to take a bath with Epsom salts. I find that really helpful. Then I try to slow down a bit by drinking a cup of tea or reading a magazine or book. Good I love books! I’m reading ordinary person At this point, it’s a piece that I passed by at the time, but I had decided not to watch the TV show before reading this book.
“For my nighttime skincare routine, I love to double cleanse, especially if I’m at work and have been reapplying my makeup all day. I start with Ella & Jo Melt The Day Away Cleansing Balm, then apply a cleansing mitt. Then use the Brighten & Glow Hydrating Exfoliating Cleanser for brighter, smoother skin. Next, use the Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Relax & Renew Night Cream.
“I’m a terrible sleeper. I start making to-do lists in my head, and it’s useful at first, but then it disappears into the abyss of this stupid chit-chat, and even though I’m worried… Everything comes in that I can’t do anything about! I try everything to help it, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”
Because I want to live a longer and healthier life…
“When I was younger, I put off getting medical checkups because I thought, ‘I don’t want to know.’ As you get older and have more life experience, you suddenly realize that knowledge is power. The more you know, the more you realize that knowledge is power. , and the sooner I know, the better. So I do blood tests, do physical exams, and talk to my doctor.
“I want to live longer and healthier lives.” I always tell my sons, “I am your mother.” I will embarrass you for the rest of my life! ” I would like to continue this for as long as possible. ”
