Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner G Santosh Kumar has directed officials to ensure the 10th International Yoga Day is held in a systematic and organised manner across the district on June 21. In a preparatory meeting on Saturday, the ADC directed officials of DK district administration, Ayush, social welfare, PU education, university education, health and family welfare, youth empowerment and sports, NSS unit, NCC unit, yoga institutes and other organisations to work together to hold the Yoga Day successfully. He said while the programme will be organised across the district, the district level event will be held at the mini auditorium of Kudmul Ranga Rao Municipal Hall, Mangalore, at 8 am on June 21. With International Yoga Day 2024 being celebrated under the theme ‘Yoga for Women Empowerment’, Kumar stressed the importance of spreading the benefits of yoga to every household in the district. The Mangalore Municipal Corporation (MCC) has been tasked with providing all the necessary facilities like drinking water and toilets and keeping the venues in Mangalore clean. The district administration will provide yoga mats and other necessary items at the venues. Mescom officials have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the programme. Kumar added that the Ayush department will coordinate with all other departments, organisations and agencies to ensure that a large number of yoga enthusiasts can participate in the programme. District Ayush officer Dr Mohammed Iqbal informed that around one lakh students have been trained in yoga in the district.
