Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appeared to slur her words as she defended President Joe Biden in an interview over the weekend in the aftermath of the president’s disastrous performance in last week’s debate.
Pelosi made the remarks during an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” co-host Dana Bash on Sunday, when asked whether Biden should step down given that it has become clear to a majority of voters that he lacks the mental makeup necessary to serve as president.
“This is an opportunity for Joe Biden to go out there and show that he’s got stamina and all that,” Pelosi said. “And by the way, the media won’t report this for some reason, but there are medical experts who believe that Trump has dementia, that he’s not thinking clearly, that he’s not just lying, that he doesn’t even know the truth.”
“So if we’re just talking about mental acuity, let’s be fair,” she continued. “I don’t think Tom Friedman thinks Donald Trump should be president of the United States. And he may say we’re supporters, but we watch Joe Biden up close and we know how sensitive he is to issues and how well-informed he is.”
“When I debate the bill with him, I don’t debate, I talk to him. He’s right there,” she concluded. “Either way, it was a bad night. Let’s not gloss over that. It was a bad night. It’s been a great presidency.”
