WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Novant Health spokesperson confirmed June 28 that some regional roles in southeastern North Carolina will be eliminated as part of the health system’s transition to a new IT model.
“In 2023, we announced a new IT model for our Digital Products and Services (DPS) team and transferred some DPS services to external partners. As a continuation of this work, we are transitioning additional DPS capabilities to Deloitte Digital, which will reduce our use of other external partners by more than 90%. These changes allow us to stretch our resources and continue to invest in creating a healthier future for the people and communities we serve,” Novant Health explained in a statement.
The system said fewer than 300 team members will be affected, and a North Carolina Department of Commerce WARN notice confirmed 81 layoffs in Forsyth County. WBTV reports that more than 170 employees will be laid off.
“For DPS team members, this change will result in adjustments to roles and responsibilities, while other roles will be phased out. Fewer than 300 team members are affected by this change, or less than 0.8% of the approximately 40,000 positions across the health system. Interested team members will have the opportunity to join external partners or move into positions within Novant Health. For other team members, we are extending resources to ease the transition and thank them for their contributions to Novant Health and our patients,” the statement continues.
