The city of Fishers received a grant of up to about $237,000 for materials and labor costs to build an outdoor fitness court.
The Fishers City Council unanimously approved a resolution on June 17 agreeing to receive the grant money and work with the National Fitness Campaign to develop plans for the installation. Final approval is expected later this year.
Prior to the vote, Jake Reardon-McSorley, Fishers’ director of recreation and wellness, told the City Council that the city had been selected as a partner in the National Fitness Campaign’s Outdoor Fitness Court initiative.
“They have developed the best outdoor fitness equipment in the world with the goal of providing free fitness to every American,” he said. “We were fortunate to apply for and receive a $30,000 grant to install a fitness court in 2025.”
Reardon McSorley said the proposed court would measure 38 feet by 38 feet and have equipment for a variety of fitness levels.

“It really works for people of any fitness level, age or ability,” he said, “and it’s designed to be accessible to people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels. What really got us excited is that it’s not just equipment that you can leave sitting there and wonder how people are going to use it. Every piece of fitness equipment has a real image and a QR code that links directly to a library of hundreds of expert-led activities, challenges and workouts. And it’s free.”
He added that a location for the proposed fitness court has yet to be determined and that the resolution is not a final approval of the project. The city’s costs will be added to the budget and presented to the City Council at a later date.
Reardon McSorley said a location that is accessible to as many residents as possible is preferable.
