Whether you love Peloton workouts or taking IRL classes (even though you can’t lift as heavy as The Rock…), you know that getting some exercise is good for you. If you regularly attend your local gym, you expect privacy and respect. Unfortunately, gyms can be a nightmare.
Tick tock User @theunapologetictiff recently shared that she works out at Planet Fitness three days per week. But one day, she was in the locker room shirtless, and explained, “I looked across and this guy who works at that damn gym came out of the ladies’ bathroom.” What?!
She says she felt “violated,” which is completely understandable since it was so uncool and inappropriate. What’s even more infuriating is that when she told the front desk staff, the man “calmly” spoke to her and acted as if nothing had happened. Why was he in the locker room? The gym does not have separate men’s restrooms. It seems reasonable to assume that if you’re changing in the gym, other people who are working out will be in the locker room…
Tiff pointed out that Planet Fitness offers free membership to teenagers during the summer, meaning high school-aged girls could have been changing in the locker room when a male employee walked in.
In the comments section, some people said they’d experienced a similar situation and stopped working out at Planet Fitness.
Tiff later shared an update saying that when she spoke with management, she was told she shouldn’t post about what happened online and to “calm down.” She said, “I don’t like how Planet Fitness is telling me to calm down and keep quiet about this. We are angry on her behalf because everyone should be heard.”
The regional manager said they would give Tiff a free three-month membership and that the employee who committed this act is “remorseful” and will undergo “training” to prevent it from happening again. Judging by the comments, it seems that many people think this act was not enough. It’s very disappointing to hear this, because the locker room should be a safe place for everyone.
Planet Fitness has been in the news lately for requiring classic card members to pay $15 a month instead of $10. According to USA Today, the membership fee has remained the same since 1998. If you’re hearing this, you might be hesitant to stop by the locker room to get changed.
