Road closure due to snow
Officials announced that North Smithfield public schools and town halls will be closed on Tuesday, February 13th in preparation for the upcoming snowfall, and there will be no trash or recycling pickup. There will be no virtual learning Tuesday, making it an official snow day for North Smithfield students.
The North Smithfield Police Department has implemented a parking ban starting at midnight tonight.
The National Weather Service’s latest forecast calls for 4 to 8 inches of precipitation in the area.

The Rhode Island Department of Public Transportation will hold a public hearing this week on proposed service changes, including the elimination of Route 59x-North Smithfield/Lincoln Mall.
Officials announced that the statewide service cuts are a direct response to the driver shortage and that the proposed service changes are based on data identifying the worst-performing routes and travel times. Changes include redistributing resources from lower-performing routes to higher-performing routes.
All public comments from the public hearing will be forwarded to RIPTA’s Board of Directors in February, who will vote on the proposed service changes at their February 22, 2024 Board meeting. If approved, the service changes will become effective on Saturday, April 6, 2024. For more information on these changes, passengers should visit RIPTA.com/PublicHearings.

Scouts BSA Troop 438 North Smithfield will hold its 5th Anniversary Court of Honor and Galentine’s Day Celebration at the Scouters Hall, 11 Main Street, on Tuesday, February 13th from 7:00 p.m. Girls troops and female Cub Scouts are invited to attend.

community yoga class
Good Working at 585 Smithfield Road will host a community yoga class on Saturday, February 17th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This class is suitable for beginners, and participants are asked to bring a yoga mat and water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. Instructor Ashley Sarge will lead the group through light sit-ups, bodyweight resistance, stretching, and more.
