WHEELING — WVU Medicine is ultimately in the wellness business, said Douglas Harrison, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and Reynolds Memorial Hospital. The organization not only wants to provide the best care for patients when they walk through its hospital doors, but it also wants Ohio Valley residents to feel their best every day.

Therefore, Harrison said it’s only natural that WVU Medicine would return as the title sponsor of the Ogden Newspaper Wellness Weekend.

“I think it’s important for us to participate in community events like this that have a health theme,” Harrison said. “So many people go to the hospital when they need emergency room or acute care. But the truth is, if you look at what we do every day and in our communities, We’re trying to promote health and wellness.”

Ogden Newspaper Wellness Weekend, presented by WVU Medicine, is a signature Ohio Valley event that brings runners, walkers, and urban warriors to downtown Wheeling to test their skills and fitness levels and have fun in a family atmosphere. can do.

Hard-core runners and walkers can tackle a half marathon, recreational runners and walkers can tackle his 5K, kids have a chance to exercise on a tot trot, and health plans offer Tough as Nails Urban. Harrison also looks forward to introducing new physicians who have joined WVU Medicine locally. He mentioned Dr. Ron Sismond, who oversees orthopedic sports medicine, and Harrison said he is doing a great job. He also mentioned Dr. Ivan Terkin, a “top-notch” orthopedic surgeon.

“We want to showcase the level of talent we have hired,” Harrison said. “And I think that fits in really well this weekend as we build out a comprehensive service line centered around sports medicine.”

Organizers of the Ogden Newspaper Wellness Weekend Presented by WVU Medicine remain pleased that WVU Medicine has aligned with the weekend’s mission to promote healthy living in a fun way that people of all ages can enjoy.

“WVU Medicine is very pleased to continue our strong relationship with Ogden Newspapers’ Wellness Weekend,” said Perry Nardo, General Manager of the Intelligencer and Wheeling News Register. “We are grateful to the organizations that will continue to work alongside us this year to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle for everyone in the Ohio Valley and beyond. There is no such partnership.”

Harrison agrees that WVU Medicine’s partnership with Ogden Newspapers’ Wellness Weekend is a “perfect fit” for everyone involved. He remains impressed with how the weekend has grown since WVU Medicine joined and how the Ohio Valley community has embraced it as a spring staple.

Harrison is also pleased that WVU Medicine will be able to participate in honoring the late G. Ogden Nutting, publisher of the Intelligencer and the Wheeling News Register.

“Given his passion for this weekend, I think it’s special that we’re still involved in it,” he said. “And hopefully it’s a traditional opportunity for us and the community to continue this in his name.”
