An outdoor fitness court will be built in Herkimer, organizers announced recently in a statement.
MVP Healthcare, the Town of Herkimer and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) made the announcement Saturday.
The Fitness Court Studio, located at 154 Pine Grove Road, will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13. There will be a demonstration at 11 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. and a friendly competition featuring area police and firefighters at 11:30 a.m.
Organizers say the MVP Healthcare Fitness Court Studio will provide the community with increased access to outdoor exercise programming. The goal of the court is to expand free access to quality training and ensure equitable access to exercise for communities across the state.
“We are excited to open our Fitness Court Studio to the community,” Herkimer Town Supervisor Dominic Frank said in a statement.
“This facility will significantly enhance town park services, providing more opportunities for exercise and recreation and contributing to improved health, fitness and wellness for town and area residents. We are grateful to MVP Healthcare and the National Fitness Campaign for working with us to bring this resource to our community.”
About the Court
The court features two training areas separated by a mural featuring beautiful landscape photos of the town of Herkimer, showcasing the environment and inspiring those who enjoy the benefits and energy that come with a great workout outdoors.
The Fitness Court studio offers a powerful seven-minute total-body workout on one side and a versatile outdoor class area for yoga, Zumba, Pilates and other popular group wellness activities on the other side.
Designed for people of all abilities aged 14 and over, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels and allow participants to work out at their own pace. Users can also download the free Fitness Court app, which acts as a coach in their pocket, elevating the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“The opening of the MVP Healthcare Fitness Court Studio in Herkimer is a step toward providing people with access to resources that can change the trajectory of their health and wellness,” Chris Del Vecchio, president and CEO of MVP Healthcare, said in a statement.
