Black Myth: Wukong is currently available for pre-order, including a planned physical version and a collector’s edition, though it looks like the physical version won’t actually include a physical copy, just a code inside the box.
Today, alongside a new trailer released at Summer Game Fest, developer Game Science opened up pre-orders for Black Myth: Wukong and announced some details about how pre-orders and the physical version will work: According to the developer, both the Deluxe and Collector’s Edition of the physical version will come with a digital activation code for the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, but no disc.
Game Science explained in a FAQ that this was due to resource limitations, but said they were considering a disc release in the future.
This is the first time GameScience has released a console game globally, and we currently face limitations in the offline resources required to import, export, transport, distribute and sell physical discs. These factors make it difficult for us to sell physical discs at the same time as the game’s official release.
Our publishing team is actively working to resolve these issues and is exploring options for providing you with physical discs.
In the same FAQ, Game Science also announced that the Xbox version of the game will be released after the PlayStation and PC versions, as the studio is “currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards.”
Last year, IGN wrote an in-depth report examining a number of sexist remarks and attitudes made by Game Science’s founders and members over the past decade. These remarks drew criticism from many Chinese gamers, especially women, and their allies, but some have defended Game Science. Game Science has not responded to our requests for comment on the matter, either at the time or since.
