A 69-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stabbing someone at an LA Fitness gym in Texas after losing his patience while waiting for a workout machine.
John David Makinson allegedly stabbed another gym patron in the buttocks Friday at LA Fitness in Austin, Texas, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 7.
Police said Makinson and the victim allegedly got into an argument over a leg press machine.
The victim told police Makinson approached him while he was using a leg press and Makinson told him to use a different machine.

According to the victim, Makinson’s next contact with the victim was when the victim came out of the men’s locker room.

According to the victim, the 69-year-old man came out of the locker room and began yelling obscenities at him.
Makinson reportedly yelled, “Where are you going?” “Tell me, you-“
The victim then said he felt blood draining from his leg.
Police said Makinson stabbed the man in the left buttock with a folding knife with a 6-inch blade.
After the attack, Makinson allegedly chased the victim inside the bathroom and attempted to stab him two or three more times.
The victim managed to get out of the bathroom and ran to the manager’s desk at the front of the building, according to the affidavit.

As LA Fitness gym-goers gathered around the victim, Makinson continued to lash out at him.
“Is there anyone else you want?” he allegedly yelled repeatedly.
A good Samaritan was able to calm Makinson and move him away from the victim.
Makinson was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“I just got out of jail for this,” he told officers. According to his criminal history, in 2021 he was arrested on an aggravated assault charge.
Makinson is being held in the Travis County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The victim required a blood transfusion due to the severity of the stab wound, which penetrated the subcutaneous tissue near the muscle tissue.
