STRONG – Strong’s annual Pier Pole Day celebration will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024. As part of the celebration, Strong Area Health & Dental Center will partner with the Healthy Communities Coalition of Greater Franklin County to host a fun-filled 5K run/walk event, a family-friendly outdoor activity not to be missed.

The event course will begin and end at the Strong Area Health & Dental Center, located at 177 North Maine Street in Strong. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Those planning to register on the day of the event should arrive by 8:30 a.m. In lieu of a registration fee, please bring a donation of either nonperishable food items for the community food pantry or diapers for the MaineHealth Diaper Drive. Adult participants will have one chance to win a raffle prize. For every three additional donations a participant makes, they will receive an additional raffle entry. In addition to the run/walk event, a mobile health unit will be on site to distribute fun giveaways and provide health education, children’s games and prizes.

To pre-register and help the Planning Committee prepare, please see the RunReg page below.

https://www.runreg.com/12074

As a thank you for pre-registering, the first 50 people who register by June 7th will be able to order a free participation T-shirt.

The Pier Pole Day 5K Planning Committee is also seeking volunteers to help make this event a success for the community. Volunteers are asked to help out on July 13th from 7am to 1pm. Volunteers can help with set up, tear down and a variety of other tasks. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Ayla Haines.

Please contact us by Friday, June 30th at (207) 860-8609 or Ayla.Haines@HealthReach.org.

Finally, for those interested, Pier Paul Day is an annual event that celebrates local Strong traditions and history. The day is named for Wabanaki (Abenaki/Amaseconti) settler Pierre “Pier Paul” Paul. Paul and his wife Hannah Sussup came to the Strong area in the late 1700s and settled in what was then called Middletown.

Strong Area Health and Dental Center is part of HealthReach Community Health Centers, a federally qualified health center comprised of 12 community health centers in rural central and western Maine. Dedicated clinicians provide high-quality, evidence-based health care, including behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, dental and podiatry services, to residents in 9 of Maine’s 16 counties.

To ensure access for everyone, HealthReach accepts Medicare, MaineCare, and major insurance companies. Affordable Care programs are available to both the uninsured and underinsured. Assistance with applying for programs to help with medical and drug costs is available, including assistance enrolling in the Maine Health Insurance Marketplace.

HealthReach is a 49-year-old private, nonprofit organization funded by patient fees, grants, and grant funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) totaling $4,815,606, of which 82.2% comes from non-governmental sources.
