STRONG – Strong’s annual Pier Pole Day celebration will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024. As part of the celebration, Strong Area Health & Dental Center will partner with the Healthy Communities Coalition of Greater Franklin County to host a fun-filled 5K run/walk event, a family-friendly outdoor activity not to be missed.
The event course will begin and end at the Strong Area Health & Dental Center, located at 177 North Maine Street in Strong. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Those planning to register on the day of the event should arrive by 8:30 a.m. In lieu of a registration fee, please bring a donation of either nonperishable food items for the community food pantry or diapers for the MaineHealth Diaper Drive. Adult participants will have one chance to win a raffle prize. For every three additional donations a participant makes, they will receive an additional raffle entry. In addition to the run/walk event, a mobile health unit will be on site to distribute fun giveaways and provide health education, children’s games and prizes.

Finally, for those interested, Pier Paul Day is an annual event that celebrates local Strong traditions and history. The day is named for Wabanaki (Abenaki/Amaseconti) settler Pierre “Pier Paul” Paul. Paul and his wife Hannah Sussup came to the Strong area in the late 1700s and settled in what was then called Middletown.
