When Caitlin Korba reported for her first day at St. Luke’s University Health Network last week, she became the network’s 20,000th employee. He became the epitome of St. Luke’s remarkable transformation into the largest and most recognized health system in the Lehigh Valley.
“After talking with other people who work at St. Luke’s, I decided I wanted to apply to St. Luke’s,” said Korba, 32, of Bethlehem Township. He currently works as a clinical social worker in the Expanded Acute Care Unit at St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Campus. Located in Allentown. “Job satisfaction is very high. There are many opportunities for growth.”
After living in Virginia for nearly 20 years, Kolba returned to the Lehigh Valley, where he grew up until he was 11 years old. Over the past few years, she met many St. Luke’s employees while working at an independent practice in Allentown. She valued networking so highly that she became convinced that St. Luke’s must be a truly special place.
She said she felt like she hit the jackpot when she received the job offer. She said: “She was so excited that she immediately called her best friend and told her about it.”
“St. Luke’s is and always will be locally owned and operated for the benefit of our community,” the health network said. Founded in Bethlehem in 1872, St. Luke’s is a fully integrated, regional, not-for-profit health system serving 15 campuses and more than 300 outpatient facilities.
The network remains headquartered in the Lehigh Valley and overseen by a board of directors comprised of Lehigh Valley residents. With annual net revenues of $3.5 billion, we are an important economic engine providing family-supporting jobs throughout our service area, which includes two states and 11 counties.
We grew to more than 5,000 employees in 2002, 10,000 in 2016, and 15,000 in 2019, shortly after Blue Mountain Health System and Sacred Heart Healthcare System joined St. Luke’s.
