Alvaro Morata has provided an update on his health ahead of the Euro 2024 final after suffering a bizarre injury caused by a security guard on Tuesday.
Spain beat France in the semi-final in Munich last night, with goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo sealing France’s fate after Randal Kolo Mouani’s opening goal.
Morata, La Roja’s captain, played 76 minutes before being replaced by Mikel Oyarzabal.
But he was caught up in a bizarre incident during Spain’s on-pitch celebrations after their place in the final was confirmed on Sunday.
As security rushed to stop a pitch intruder heading towards the Spain players, the intruder slipped and crashed into Morata’s knee.
The striker grimaced in pain in a worrying scene for Luis de la Fuente’s side.
Morata had been reported to have a sprained knee but the 31-year-old gave details of his condition when questioned as he left his Munich hotel on Wednesday morning.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Atletico Madrid star told reporters that his availability for the final was not in doubt, but he also acknowledged the strangeness surrounding the incident.
“It’s a yellow card and that’s it,” Morata joked.
Morata was visibly shaken as he left the pitch on Tuesday and the striker is expected to undergo a precautionary check later today.
However, after the semi-final win, de la Fuente insisted he was optimistic the incident with Morata was not too serious.

“We will wait for Alvaro until tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.
“I don’t think it’s anything serious, just your leg seems to hurt. I think you’ll be okay.”
Morata’s incident comes after he sparked outrage within the Spain camp on the eve of the semi-final by threatening to quit the team at the end of the tournament, citing “nonsense” criticism.
The striker previously admitted that the “easiest thing” would be to move abroad because of the poor treatment he was receiving, and revealed the impact it would have on his family, including his wife and four young children.
“There is no respect for anyone in Spain,” he fumed, hinting at leaving Atletico Madrid just a week after declaring his future at the club.
His shocking interview with El Mundo ahead of the match against France caused a stir in his home country.
‘Maybe [my last tournament with Spain]”It’s possible. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but it’s possible,” Morata told the outlet.
The striker, who played for Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea before joining Atletico on loan in 2019, has endured some tense relations with Spanish supporters.

He was whistled during Spain’s Euro 2020 match and booed during a friendly against Brazil at the Bernabeu in March.
“It’s hard to be happy in Spain,” Morata said. “Definitely [I’m happier outside of Spain]I’ve said it many times before, because above all else, people respect me.
“In Spain there is no respect for anything or anyone.”
Spain and Morata will be watching with bated breath as England plays the Netherlands in the semi-final on Wednesday night, waiting to find out who their opponents will be in Sunday’s final.
