REO Speedwagon postponed their concert in Syracuse two days before it was scheduled to go on sale due to health issues.
“Hi everyone! After consulting with my vocal coach, band doctor, and REO’s manager, we have come to the conclusion that I need to take a few days of complete vocal rest and undergo medication, which unfortunately forces me to postpone tonight’s concert in Selbyville, Delaware,” lead singer Kevin Cronin wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“I am deeply concerned that I may disappoint and inconvenience all of you amazing fans. Please understand that my choice to reschedule this show to a future date was an extremely difficult decision. I would love to take to the stage at The Cellar Building tonight, sing the hits, and rock out with the best band in the country, REO Speedwagon. Believe me, if I could perform tonight at the level expected of me, that is exactly what I would do. However, on this day, Mother Nature has other plans for my body. Therefore, I must ask you all to postpone and determine a resumption date. I appreciate your understanding and sincerely apologize.”
As of Tuesday morning, REO Speedwagon’s other tour dates remained unaffected, but more shows may be rescheduled after Cronin, 72, said he “needs to take a few days to completely rest his voice.”
REO Speedwagon is currently scheduled to perform with Train at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse on Wednesday, July 31. The Yacht Rock Revue will open the show at 6:25 p.m.
Tickets are still available for purchase on Live Nation, starting at $49.65, with additional tickets available on VividSeats, StubHub, TicketNetwork and SeatGeek.
REO Speedwagon and Train played two concerts in upstate New York earlier this month: at SPAC’s Broadview Stage in Saratoga Springs on July 23 and at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on July 24. Train also performed at Art Park in Lewiston on July 19.
This isn’t the first time that health concerns have put the Syracuse Amphitheater concerts in jeopardy this summer: 91-year-old Willie Nelson pulled out of his scheduled performance at the Outlaw Music Festival last month, with his son Lukas Nelson filling in alongside a line-up that included Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.
REO Speedwagon, led by Cronin since 1972, is best known for its ’70s and ’80s rock hits, including “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Take It on the Run” and “Keep on Loving You.” The classic rock band has performed at Amp in 2022 and the New York State Fair in 2021 and 2023, drawing more than 34,000 fans last year, one of the largest crowds in New York State Fair concert history.
