Genetec Global Press Summit 2024 announced that cloud adoption for physical security is accelerating after a decade of slow progress.
Andrew Elvish, vice president of marketing at Genetec, announced Genetec’s State of Physical Security 2024 report at an event at Genetec’s DCXC Suite in Washington, D.C. In 2023, research shows that 44% of end users are concerned about their physical security environment. More than a quarter said it indicated a security issue. Cloud or Hybrid The percentage of cloud users in the 2022 survey was 24%.
This statistic supports the launch of Genetec’s Security Center SaaS concept, delivered as a highly scalable, open and integrated Software as a Service solution (SaaS).
Combining access control, video management, forensic search, intrusion monitoring, automation, and many other advanced security features, Genetec Security Center SaaS is said to open a new chapter in the technological evolution of the physical security industry.
Despite the move to the cloud, a hybrid architecture that blends on-premises and cloud-based solutions is suitable for most organizations. Elf said the transition to a hybrid system has already begun.
“Cloud-based video surveillance systems were initially adopted earliest by both small and large organizations with distributed sites and a small number of cameras, such as fast-food restaurants and retail banking chains.
“The 2023 results show that this is changing. Many large enterprise organizations with more than 100,000 employees are now adopting cloud-based video surveillance systems.”
Elvish identified the move to the cloud as a hybrid.
“In the 2022 survey, respondents reported that 58% of their physical security systems were on-premises and 42% were in the cloud or hybrid cloud. In the 2023 survey, respondents reported that their physical security systems were on-premises. The numbers jumped, with 33% and 67% of respondents saying they were in the cloud or hybrid cloud. “It shows that they want options when optimizing,” he said.
