- Planet Fitness offers a wide selection of cardio and strength training machines in our “Judgment Free Zone.”
The St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to partner with St. Charles United Way and Anytime Fitness Destrehan to host free adult strength circuit training classes beginning June 13th at 11am every Thursday at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center.
“We have been working to incorporate adult fitness programming into our offerings and are grateful for the funding from United Way of St. Charles to allow us to offer this Anytime Fitness programming at no cost to our residents,” Director Duane Follett said.
Thursday classes are one hour long and open to all fitness levels with the goal of building community through health and wellness. The program has five sessions scheduled for June 13, June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25.
“Exercise and good nutrition are essential at every stage of life, but they become even more important as we age,” says Jenna Schexneidl, certified personal trainer, nutrition coach and group fitness instructor at Anytime Fitness Destrehan. “Regular exercise helps prevent diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, some cancers and obesity, and can also aid in mental illness. In addition to the health benefits, functional strength training programs for adults can also help improve overall quality of life by increasing the number of activities that help us do things like get up and sit down off the ground to play with our grandchildren, carry groceries or bend down to put on our shoes. Adults need to progressively overload their muscles on a regular basis not only to prevent bone and muscle loss, but also for longevity and improved overall quality of life.”
The mission of the St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department is to provide quality recreation programs, activities, parks and facilities that enhance the quality of life for residents.
