Franciscan Health will be hosting a virtual diabetes prevention program online starting in July.
The program meets weekly to discuss lifestyle changes to prevent type 2 diabetes. The program follows guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which have been proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. The group meets with a trained lifestyle coach for 16 weekly sessions and six monthly follow-up sessions.
To be eligible for the program, participants must be 18 years of age or older, have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or greater, have never been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, have been diagnosed with prediabetes (fasting blood sugar of 100-125 mg/dl or A1C of 5.7-6.4 within the past 12 months) or have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
Participants must also undergo testing that shows they are at high risk for type 2 diabetes on a prediabetes risk assessment.
This is a distance learning class: participants must have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone to attend the class.
The information session will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 5pm.

The cost of the one-year program is $99. Registration is required and space is limited. To register for classes or for more information, contact Amy Lambert at amy.lambert@franciscanalliance.org.
