Five Valley Health hospitals have been recognized as 2024 Top 100 Hospitals by the Chartis Center for Rural Health.
The Chartis Center for Rural Health annually tracks the performance of rural hospitals nationwide using publicly reported data on the 36 measures of quality, outcomes, patient satisfaction, and cost that make up the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®. I am evaluating the following: Chartis recognizes strong performance across these metrics, Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals and Top 100 Local and Regional Hospitals domestically based on the results of the evaluation.
All four of Valley Health’s critical access hospitals: Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Page Memorial Hospital, War Memorial Hospital, and Hampshire Memorial Hospital. Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals Shenandoah Memorial Hospital has now been named to the Top 100 list for the third year in a row, making it the only hospital in Virginia to make the list three years in a row. His two West Virginia hospitals at Valley Health, Hampshire Memorial Hospital and War Memorial Hospital, were the only two of his hospitals in the state to make the Top 100 list.
Warren Memorial Hospital, which is larger than Valley Health’s Critical Access Hospital, made the list. Top 100 Local and Regional Hospitals Hospitals on this list are not federally designated emergency access hospitals. The hospital must meet requirements such as having 25 or fewer acute care inpatient beds and being located at least 55 miles from other hospitals. Hospitals on the Rural and Regional Hospitals Top 100 list are defined as rural based on their location and must have fewer than 200 inpatient beds. Warren Memorial Hospital is one of his four hospitals in Virginia included on the list.

Chartis INDEX uses publicly available data to evaluate and benchmark the performance of 1,300 critical access hospitals and approximately 800 local and regional hospitals across the United States. The 100 highest scoring properties made this year’s list. Winchester Medical Center is not included in the INDEX because it is not located in a rural zip code and has more than 200 beds.

The Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX® is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. INDEX is utilized nationally to measure and monitor performance in various areas that impact hospital operations.
