
Statue to be erected in honor of Lions great Barry Sanders
The Detroit Lions unveiled a new statue of Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders outside Ford Field on Saturday ahead of the team’s home opener.

Detroit Lions icon Barry Sanders revealed a “health scare” via social media on Friday night.
The retired running back, who was last seen in public on June 6 at a concert celebrating the reopening of Michigan Central Station in Corktown, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was suffering from “heart-related” issues.

His post read:
“Over Father’s Day weekend, I experienced a health scare related to my heart. It was unexpected and reminded me of the importance of continuing to look after my physical health, even when I’m feeling well.”
“I am grateful to the incredible doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who provided me with the care I needed. My family and I appreciate your prayers and support during this time.
At my doctor’s recommendation, I will be taking this opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being. I thank everyone for their understanding and continued support.”
Sanders, who turns 56 next month, leads the Lions in career rushing yards (15,269) and touchdowns (99), ranking fourth and 10th respectively.Numberwhile the overall NFL player ranks in each of these categories.
